Good morning, GN!

Skimming through the movies available on Netflix and Prime, they all look so similar in terms of plot and characters -- it makes me wonder if we’ve reached peak storytelling -- no new stories left to tell. On the other hand, it could just be that those content providers are stuck in such a narrow slice of the world’s experience that they’ve exhausted that bucket and yet refuse to find a new one.

Really, how many more movies need to be made about a female law enforcement agent making an uncomfortable discovery that puts her at odds with her department, who then heroically overcomes all obstacles?

Happy Caturday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!

Studios would rather re-make movies that worked than take a risk on new stories. It’s just laziness.

I read this morning about an “extremely dangerous” 18-year old who escaped from a half-way house and has removed or disabled his ankle monitor. His story says a lot about our criminal justice system. At 13 he was arrested for stabbing his mother to death. Two years later, he escaped from juvenile hall. Several months later he was finally convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the death of his mother (over 2 1/2 years after he was arrested). About a year later he was convicted of numerous counts of assault on juvenile corrections officers and sentenced to wear an ankle bracelet until his was completed in about 1 1/2 years. When he was moved to the half-way house, officials aren’t saying. Four months after his latest conviction, he’s gone. Well done!

This sounds like a terribly messed up and dangerous young man. From what you described, the system itself failed at multiple levels: taking more than two years to even get him to trial, allowing him to escape, obviously no rehabilitation while in custody, and then losing track of him again.

His family failed in some fashion as his murder of his mother attests.

What do you do with a man like this? I imagine that when/if they find him again, there will be a trail of victims in back of him.

Somehow Saturday got away from me.

See all y’all later, I guess.

It was a nice day, thus far.
