Coons are naturally good-hearted creatures, until they run into bad influences, like ducks.

Happy Friday, GN!

Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!

Sven -- you’re absolutely right about ducks. The one in the thread pic is a domestic duck -- just think how much more trouble a wild duck would cause.

Hi, Paddy -- I wonder about the definition of “wild.” Are there truly any “wild” animals left in the world? All species over the last 10,000 years have had serious interactions with human civilization that have reduced their populations -- how have they evolved via natural selection -- how different are they today from their truly wild ancestors?

That being written, I think teh coon might be better behaved if it ran into a wild duck instead of that domesticated one. The domestic duck is probably grappling with its gender or species identity leading it to spend more time searching for acceptance and virtue signaling rather than survival.

Very true, Sven. I’m pretty sure the duck is also wrestling with its white privilege.

Maybe he was just following CDC guidelines? Which indicates which animal is more law-abiding.

Good morning, everyone.

Just got home from The Big Route. One of our carriers is out of state; which means his papers go in the mail; which means The mail takes much longer; which means I was expecting the whole shebang to take me 14 hours; actually, I clocked out at around 13, so I did better than anticipated.

Day before yesterday, I went to cottonwood and bought some herbs at the nursery down there. Only one wasn’t available that was on Harper’s master list of herbs to get. Anyway I also got some creeping thyme, which wasn’t on the list. I was tempted to get some cilantro, but I’ve had such a hard time getting it to grow that I chickened out on that.

While I was down in Cottonwood, I got some clothes, as I was short a few pieces in my rotation. I also bought a cast iron griddle; I was tired of dealing with the alloy one we had that has been warped for a long time, so I got a new one, and threw out the old one.

Good morning, dv8!

I’ve never had much luck growing herbs. They last awhile, then die. I don’t think I harvest my basil enough to keep it thick.

Hi, Dv8. We’ve had some luck growing herbs hydroponically inside, but whatever gets grown outside ends up getting eaten. Glad you got some new duds.

It’s probably the ducks that are eating them, then convincing the raccoons to join them.

When our friend Frank was dying in hospice, someone brought in an Amazon Echo Dot-Alexa thingie. It sat there for days before we really noticed it and once we figured out what it was, we would get Alexa to play music for him.

Never been interested in Alexa before, and after hearing all the horror stories about privacy, never thought to get one. Besides, we have a dumb house and it seems like this AI is more suited to houses where it can control EVERYTHING. Anyhow, bought one for Mrs Sven and have been playing with it a bit. Interesting contraption. Mostly have it playing music; the sound quality for a little tiny speaker is amazing. I do catch myself treating it like it’s alive -- like saying thank you to it -- but then I do talk to my truck at times so it’s probably OK.

Talking to vehicles is essential if you want to keep them happy and running properly.

BTW, I completely forgot -- Happy Urff Day!
Turn on your lights heat or cool your home (or do both!), refrigerate your food, go on a drive, wash clothes using an automated machine with modern detergents, then wear that clothing made of miracle fibers!

At the very least! If you could fire up your electric smelter and start with bauxite, that would be preferable.

There’s no marches out here today in favor of Mother Earth -- I think it’s conflicting with the NATIONAL DAY OF SILENCE.

The biggest mistake the environmental movement made was embracing global warming/climate change as the umbrella issue for all things environment. There’s real problems and issues, but most of them don’t relate to that and they get lost in the shuffle.

Did you ever watch Whale Wars on Animal Planet? There was that great episode where Watson claimed to have been shot by a whaler.

I saw that CNN’s new streaming service bit the dust after three weeks -- I wonder if Elon Musk would be interested in buying it?

I’ve got another 4-5 hours worth of work tonight and then much more during the weekend, but a good chunk of time is waiting for things to run, so I’m bouncing through the intertubes. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are in some big trial -- I know who Depp is, but I’d never heard of Amber Heard. The only thing I know about her now is that sliced off part of Depp’s finger and shat on his bed.

Nothing says class, like crapping on your husband’s bed. She probably has a cat.

I had to chuckle today -- my boss is fleeing CA for Colorado Springs -- he’s a diehard leftie, but also said he was tired of the fires out here and is flying to CO today to look at a house. So I had a meeting scheduled with another guy today who texted me and said he may have to evacuate from his house due to fire and needed to reschedule. He said for me to not worry about the fire as he doesn’t live near me anymore. I asked him where he moved to. Colorado Springs.

Ok, I’m done for a night after doing a Dv8-like day and another one tomorrow and at least part of Sunday. Thanks for keeping me company, Mac. My best to Elena.

Came across this -- it’s from 10 years ago and on Earth Day, seems appropriate.
