Good morning, GN.

What’s scarier than clowns? Those cats in teh thread pic.

Happy Caturday, GN!

Hai, Sven!

I still think clowns are a tich scarier than teh thread pic, but we all have our unique hierarchies of terror.

Found the Tom Johnson article interesting as I’ve never become obsessed with constantly using my smartphone. I greatly appreciate what it can do but have no need to stay “connected” all the time. Perhaps it’s because I was already in my forties when the first iPhone was released and I was set in certain habits.

Plus, I’m not heavily invested in social media, don’t need to be constantly talking / texting, I put my shopping lists on paper (which I find easier), etc. Also still love “dead tree” books and the ebook software I use is non-distracting; nor do I often get tempted to check emails, surf the web, etc. while reading a book on my tablet.

(I will say that navigating metro ATL with the equivalent of a Thomas Bros. map book might suck, but I could do it if I had to. Despite the higgledy-piggledy layout of the streets compared to everywhere else I’ve lived and the fact that 25% of them contain the word “Peachtree” in their names.)

BK got -- per plan -- a higher chemo dose yesterday which led to some new side-effects. Fortunately, a late night Walmart run for some Gatorade Zero seems to have helped significantly. She was able to eat a gyro sammich to no ill effect last evening.

She’s still abed; we’ll see how she’s doing when she gets up.

Have no idea why one paragraph in my preceding comment is bolded.

I’ve noticed that it happens sometimes though.

Happy Operatic Caturday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven, and Fatwa!

We’re slowly getting better here in Casa du O’Furnijur, but I can see that it’s going to take some time before we’re all feeling 100%.

Fatwa -- I’m glad to hear that BrendaK is tolerating the chemo as well as she is. Prayers for healing and restoration of health.

A house down the hill is getting a new roof. They first stripped things down to the original battens (the houses originally had cheap shake roofs), laid down plywood, then roofing felt. Now about a week and a half later they’re installing what look like slate tiles. I don’t know what they’re made of, but they are heavy and lots of dust is generated when they cut one with a circular saw. My question is, are these roofs engineered to hold that kind of weight? They were built with pre-manufactured 2x4 trusses, 24 inches on center. I’d hate to see someone fall prey to an unscrupulous contractor.

Drive-by:

Heya, Paddy!

Glad to read you’re all on the mend; hope you all hit 100% sooner than later.

LambiePieK’s doing surprisingly well today; hopefully the same will be so tomorrow. (I have been told there will be meatball sammiches on garlic bread for dinner; nom!)

As re teh house down the hill: I’m taking a wild-ass guess they’re installing lightweight concrete tile. Depending on brand, style, etc. they weigh roughly 5.5-7.0 lbs. per square foot, which is a bit more than double the weight of architectural shingles. Assuming decent original framing plus proper installation of the roof sheathing, that ought not be a load (uh huh huh huh) issue.

They might even be polymer tiles (Da Vinci, etc.) which are also lightweight; around 3.0 lbs./ sq.ft.depending on style, installation pattern, etc.

So Fatwa,

Glad to hear BrendaK is doing okay.

Um on a roof related note: Do they have solar roof tiles yet? I remember reading about them at some point. Maybe even Elon was working on them? did it ever happen?

They do have solar roof tiles; Tesla’s one of the manufacturers. I know next to nothing about them save for the fact they’re expensive and have a limited -- ~20 years -- service life.

Jim and I haven’t looked into them as they’re such unproven tech…and we’re nearing the end of JimCo’s “service life”.

Slept entirely through Friday. Seems like I was tired all week long.

Dishwasher guy never showed up.

I do NOT want to change this pump out myself, even though it would save me 200 bux.

But maybe I’ll have to. The dishwasher guy has disappeared, so it seems.

well… I didn’t sleep entirely through Friday. I got home from the Big route. I wasn’t too late. I stayed up for a couple of hours. slept until sometime after noon. But by around 5pm I was already ready for bed again. Then I slept through to Saturday Morning.

We were hoping to catch DuckHK live on Rumble. But somehow missed him, so we’re going to watch his saturday stream in a few minutes in a replay.

Truth Social went live on the web a couple of days ago.

Not on Android yet, but I made a web app shortcut on my phone, and it works just fine. Just like GAB.

If Elon fixes twitter, it will make essentially all of the twitter alternatives irrelevant, probably, except for GAB, which still will have the freest speech policy of all the micro-blogging platforms.

Since the Elon thing started, though, Twitter has been fun.
