Good morning, Fatwa -- glad Brenda is resting. Hope you are getting some as well.
Speaking of binge-watching, I’ve been doing that for the series The Mentalist with Simon Baker and Robin Tunney. If you never watched it, it’s about a fake psychic, Patrick Jane, whose wife and daughter are murdered by a serial killer named Red John and Jane spends several seasons hunting the killer as a police consultant. It’s goofy in a lot of places, but entertaining. It came out maybe 15 years ago.
I remember that series but I did not watch it and did not know the basic story. It is available to me on one of the streaming channels and I was tempted to check it out after recently seeing him in the movie Margin Call. I was quite impressed with his performance in that and it caught my interest in him. Maybe I will need to take another look at it..
Hi, Mac. It’s more of an entertaining throwback to the McMillan and Wife, Columbo, Rockford Files, etc. types of cop/mystery shows. Simon Baker does a good job in the lead role.
Only saw a bit of the last two and none of the first, but now that you explained the start of the show I may check it out. I have watched very few shows regularly in a long time. Just a few like Forever Knight, Married with Children, Big Bang Theory. The first two I ignored at first but got drawn in later. I recently downloaded the entire Married with Children series, there were many I never saw.As much time as I spend in front of a screen I still can’t keep up with what I accumulate.
If I can make a suggestion with The Mentalist and if you have access to all 7 seasons, watch Season 5-Episode 5-Red Dawn, first. It’s a flashback to when Jane first meets up with the CBI agents. If you like the feel of that one, then dig in beginning with the first episode. Jane’s hunt for the killer of his wife and daughter is not the focus of the show -- it’s always there, but most episodes don’t even mention Red John.
The goofiest thing on this show is the ease with which the crimes are solved and how everybody just confesses and never asks for an attorney. But it’s fun anyhow.
Thank you, I was excited to do just as you suggested. I was disappointed to find that I could not access it. It shows on Hulu but I can’t get it unless I upgrade my subscription to an expensive level. Guess I will have to wait.
Sure Happy It’s Thursday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!
Trash pandas -- tricky little buggers, but at least you can understand their motives, unlike cats.
Fatwa -- I’m glad BrendaK is getting some rest.
Sven -- I looked all over the inner tubes for moar info on teh OK hospital shooting. Police aren’t identifying the victims or the murderer and none of the coverage has described the perp, even when interviewing people who saw him. I guess something doesn’t fit the narrative.
Shooter and his target both black. He wanted to kill the Doctor who operated on him last month “and anyone who got in his way”. Another lady Doctor, a receptionist, and another patient who held a door closed so someone else could escape through another door. The police responded very quickly but he killed himself when the entered and announced themselves. I am sure this was his intention once he got his target. I can’t imagine he would want to be in prison with the pain he was suffering.
Interesting read. Sadly I don’t see it happening. The ruling class includes the establishment in both parties and even the so called third groups like Bernie. I know of three times the American people have managed to defy these rulers and elect people to represent them, Reagan, Newt’s freshmen class in 94, and Trump. In all three cases the establishment in both (all) parties ganged together to defeat and destroy these outsiders like a cancer. It would take electing outsiders to both the executive and legislative branches and I think the education (spit) system has effectively made that impossible. There will continue to be resistance but I think we are too far down the slope to stop the slide at this point.
We sadly lack leaders, but have no shortage of politicians and boot-lickers. I wonder if America, much like Trump, was an anomaly that’s run its course.
Great. Brandon is going to deliver a prime time address tonight on gun control. Suggestions for your drinking bingo card:
kevlar
weapons of war
cannon
not absolute
95% of Americans support…
this is not who who we are
NRA
gun lobby
profits before children
no one needs…
No other nation
high-capacity maga, er, magnets, er, you know, the thing
blows out a lung
Well, that explains what I heard while driving home from the auto shop. In five minutes I heard at least seven of those. Good thing I didn’t have anything to drink in the car.
Sure Happy It’s Thursday, GN!
Mac --
“Heh!” for today’s thread pic.
LambiePieK’s still asleep; I suspect she was probably up late again either reading or binge-watching something.
Been out-of-touch re news the past couple of days; I probably needed a break, anyway.

Regarding teh news, last night there was big media coverage on a mass shooting at an Oklahoma hospital -- this morning, crickets. I wonder why.

Something I’ve thought for years and agree with 100%.

Glad I don’t have kids.
