Happy Friday, GN! If everything goes well, this will be my last 7-day week as the the first phase of this work project comes to an end.

Happy “Happy Raccoon Friday”, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!

You might see a cat hug a stuffed animal -- right before it disemboweled it.

My meeting with my bosses yesterday was okay. They’re doing yet another reorganization. Last years re-org was IMO designed specifically to drive out my former boss. It worked, but they were left with the problem of filling her job. They did that by giving me the job on top of the job I already had. Add to that all the work I did teaching and supporting the new hire in charge of the special education department and some portion of my job had to suffer. In this case it was the work I did with students who were in general education, but struggling. For the re-org this year, they’re promoting the new hire to Director of Special Education and removing all special education responsibilities from my plate. This is fine with me. I found it amusing that yesterday evening the soon-to-be SPED director was sending me questions that she should know the answers to in order to considered qualified for her old position, let alone her new one. I’m afraid that the SPED department will fall apart next year, but they won’t be able to lay any of that at my feet.

Is this any different from what you encountered in the public school system? I would have thought that private education would run better.

This is still public education, but as a charter school, we have more flexibility and charter schools are generally non-union.

I had a conversation with our HR person (who is also our CFO) and she agreed that some things had not been handled well, and that she was going to have to work with some people on their management skills. She doesn’t know the skills of all of the players in this drama, nor the knowledge and skills required for each position, and has been relying on the Principal and Asst. Principal to make the right calls. I think she may be learning that they have their own agenda, which doesn’t always take the school’s best interest at heart.

Ah. For some reason I thought this was a private school. It sounds like maybe your HR person will be helpful.

I often hear about how Trump’s questioning of the election results culminated in the January 6 “insurrection” and was the first ever attempt to “prevent the peaceful transfer of power for the first time in American history.” And then I remembered this from somewhere deep in my memory.

Killing time. I can’t start my work until 5:00 PM.

8:00 Well this didn’t go well -- thought I’d get two out of three things done tonight, but #1 went poorly. I’ll pick up the other two over the weekend.
