12 degrees now. Got down to 8 this morning. I kept a propane heater running in the garage all night and it kept thing in the upper 30s in the garage, with the hatch to the attic ajar to let some heat up there. Left two faucets running and stayed up until 5:30 to monitor things. looks like it was worth it as no problems. Supposed to be low 20s all day and high teens tonight, but not as bad as last night. I will try to pick up more propane today but electric heaters may be enough today/ tonight. Should get warmer after that but still a cold Christmas.
Fatwa is off teh Wheel but is expecting 8 degrees today and will not be home. Hope he has no problems.
Back in the day, we’d put an incandescent bulb up there and turn it on in the winter at night.
My dad was a handyman during the last few years of his life--earned pretty good money doing that too--anyway, he noted that people were putting low energy bulbs in the attic, and because of that, people were having problems with their pipes freezing on occasion. You need a normal bulb up there, he said. It will keep it just warm enough.
There is a lot of ventilation up there so I don’t think a bulb would do it. I have a heater up there I can use but I had a lot of things in the garage I did not want to freeze, so I covered both. Usually the electric heater in the garage is enough down to the high 20s, but when it goes for teens or single digits as it did last night, I fire up the propane heater. I have not used it since the big freeze a while back. That was complicated by electricity and water shortages that made it hard to cope. This was easier and shorter. It is 20 now and heading for a high of 23, but the low tonight is 20 degrees so the electric heater may be enough. The propane kept the garage in the low 40s yesterday and mid 30s at the coldest this morning. That was on it’s lowest setting with one burner. I went out and got two full tanks of propane so I am ready for whatever, I think.
I’m still on TOR also. Hi to Fatwa. We had some snow early on when it was too warm to stick, we had some really cold nights, in the 20s, but lately it’s been warmer. I guess we won’t get any snow at Christmas.
Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven, and Mac!
Sven -- take care of yourself and get well soon! Save the illness for work days, not days off.
Mac -- that sounds like some good planning on your part. I hope you’re able to pick up more propane. Watch out for black ice when you’re out and about. Hopefully there’s no precipitation in the forecast.
Harper did some cleaning out on the dishwasher, We were hoping that might keep it from leaking, but nope. Still is leaking. Might be from underneath where the new pump was put in. It might be loose. I guess I’ll wait for the repairman. I just don’t want to try taking it apart. Although I’m sure I could. I am actually pretty mechanically inclined. I’m just so, so tired.
I’m sorry your dishwasher is still leaking. I hate being too tired to complete tasks, and I hate taking something apart and not having time to put it back together and clean everything up.
I put up some wireless thermometers up in our attic to keep track of high temps during the summer -- wanted to see if this attic fan was doing anything. Might be a good idea in colder regions.
It’s good to have more than just your brian going for you.
Yuck. I got the flu or something.
I am sorry to see that. Bad timing. I hope you shake it off soon.

That’s a smart idea, getting some heat up into the attic, Mac. Stay safe and as warm as you can.

Propane has gone up in price. Thanks Branden.
yup. Funny that it is colder there where you are than here.
How much snow, if any, do you get where you are?
Almost none and nothing stayed.

Hot water. On demand. What a blessing.
indeed. Hopefully it won’t just be a distant memory, as we become a banana republic.

Yuck. Sneezing. Achy.
She has at least two Brians, so that’s good.
