A little bit of rain overnight -- no rain this morning, but the winds are picking up and the real storm is supposed to begin in an hour or so.
What annoys me with all of this is the govt/media warnings of doom, destruction, and havoc. It’s winter. It’s weather. We ought to be able to deal with it and get on with our day.
Years ago I was working in Houston -- a consulting job at Compaq. Never been there before and I’m driving to my motel after my first day -- I think it was like 12 miles from the plant site on 1960 -- and it starts raining. Real quickly, I can barely see a few car lengths in front of me and I’m wondering do I keep going or what. Some traffic keeps on; more traffic begins to pull off the road. I pull off. Wait. Half an hour later it lightens up and people get back on the road. No big deal. Just normal south Texas weather. I mentioned it to the girl when I checked in and her response was a slight shrug.
Here in CA, everything has to be an emergency -- a crisis. Part of that is legitimate as our govt is incompetent and our infrastructure is broken, but it’s also a people thing and not in a good way.
