I think they entered Gerbil lore when someone’s mother, who was becoming rather eccentric, was asked why she was carrying a roadkill racoon in the trunk of her car and replied that it was “A perfectly good racoon.”
That phrase was used many times on Teh Wheel after that. The Gentle Harper may remember.
Now of course, Sven has converted his mountain redoubt to a sanctuary for local raccoons. They journey from long distances to make the pilgrimage.
Happy (checks calendar) Wednesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, dv8, Mac, and Sven!
This week is just jam-packed and people keep trying to squeeze in more meetings in between the cracks!
The seminar I attended yesterday was excellent and I came away with a number of ideas that we can implement to improve teaching and learning. My principal decided not to drive up from San Diego in the rain, so the only other attendee from my school was our Executive Director. Any time I can spend with him sharing ideas is good and helps cement the relationship.
It’s well-written and the tone of the writing is quite good. It’s a commonsense recounting of what they were looking into, what they found, and some of what they concluded. It doesn’t shy away from the science, but they don’t dumb it down nor let the jargon confuse the reader. It’s not a red meat document, but rather what I would like more of our political and expert classes to produce -- a reasonable and blunt look at things.
Why are raccoons so funny??
Sorry I haven’t been checking in as much lately. I’m going to go back and look at previous posts.
We’ve had a bit of snow this morning.
I’m hoping for major disruption. I’ll be honest.
I think your hopes will be realized -- it will be messy no matter which scenario plays out on either side.

Not anymore -- the coon population is not what it used to be in our area or they’ve found more generous benefactors than Mrs Sven.
I remember the “perfectly good racoon” story.!!!
Good morning, Dv8, and Mac -- good to see both of you.

Off to the first meeting of the day!
It’s already turned to rain, but there you are.
That’s beautiful!
I see that the “principled” GOP has voted not to impeach Sec’y Mayorkas. Moar kabuki theater. Just what we need.
“Muh principles.” Disappointed in Tom McClintock.
Oh, hai! Ol’ Barrett has finally retired. Just in time to take a dirt nap.
Good to see you. I hope you really enjoy retirement, cause you know I do.
I want to. I’m still trying to figure out my next steps. I’ve never worked so hard since I retired 15 years ago.
Hi Jerrie!
Two retirements? You don’t do things by half measures, do you? How are all the regulatory filings going? Have you shocked your neighbors recently?
HI, mac. I do hope you and Elana are doing well. How are things in the Great Republic of Texas?
We are doing well, thank you. I love Texas! I hate seeing what is happening to California, and the nation.
I’m not sure how to respond to this post….
Seventy-six ain’t what it used to be. I’m still 13 years old on the inside, but I’m really “rode hard and put up wet” on the outside.
Good to see you, Barrett, and thanks for getting teh wheel back up and running.
Oh, and I have trademarked my name, so no one can use it on X. That should be fun.
Jeri Barrett?
I think the beast gets out this year, if not last year.
I read through this Florida Grand Jury report on covid and the response to it.
