Sven -- I hope you still have power. I see the Hughes fire hasn’t grown significantly. Let’s hope they can get better control before the winds pick up again. I hope the smoke is not affecting you too much.
Maybe someday explorers from the more advanced societies will find California and introduce the technology and methods that have served so well the last century in the rest of the nation to provide power , water, and forest management.
We are in an unincorporated area of Ventura County near the east end of Simi Valley and a few miles west of the LA County line, Mac. There were no major fire threats this time out beyond a couple that the fire department jumped on immediately. On Wednesday while Mrs Sven was getting her tests, I stepped outside of the hospital -- which is located at the very northwest end of the San Fernando Valley -- and the smoke from the Hughes fire had blackened maybe 50% of the sky looking north. In years past, fires have started in the Santa Clarita area and moved south and west down close to our place, so this one worried me.
The winds have been brutal and it’s going to be a long year of power outages and fires throughout CA.
Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!

Hi, Paddy.
Power came back on -- that’s, I think, 6 days this month without power.Smoke was bad the first few hours of the fire, then cleared up out here.
Rough week with everything else going on.

There’s the old joke: Before candles, what did Californians use for light at night? Electricity.
They haven’t banned candles yet? Or at least required emission controls?
55 final exams were taken by my students and 27 still have to be taken. Yes, today is the last day to take finals, why do you ask?
Deadline is midnight?
All exams have to be proctored and my last timeslot was 1-4pm today.
Well, life lessons can occur at any age. I’ll bet tho that more than one parent will blame you somehow, Paddy.
Of course!
It is good to hear from Sven. I do not know the area he is in but the fires sounded bad. I was worried.

I am so sorry you have to deal with this on top of the other things. I hope it sorts out well on all counts.
Thanks, Mac. One step at a time and all that.
Hi Mac and Sven!
Sven -- I hope you and Mrs. Sven can get some rest.
Mac -- I hope Elena is holding up.
