A blessed Sabbath, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!
Sven -- well, at least some parts of my extended family. Others on my side and Mrs. Paddy’s side, not so much.
Toe-bean pics? Maybe from Gigi, if she stays still somewhere in camera range. Murray the recovering feral? I’m just hoping he’ll come out from under the loveseat in my office and allow us to look at him.
Well… Once again we find ourselves down in the valley. Another trip to the Mayo Clinic. This time, we’re staying down here 4 nights to make the trip seem more restful. So we’ll see how that goes.
This, by the way, was a kind of gueling event (at first). I’m taking PTO this tuesday night making the weekend 4 days, and taking advantage of my cheapo Hilton employee discount. But I came off of my 10 your shift on Saturday morning and then spent the next 4 hours getting ready. Fortunately Harper had already done a fair amount of preparation, so it wasn’t as hektic as it could have been. We ended up getting underway around 1pm which was about perfect for our 3 pm check-in time.
I got some Subway once we were settled in and we ended up going to sleep around 6ish and waking up at midnight for a while and hanging out for a couple of hours. I was surprised to find myself waking up around 8 am--still in time for the Hilton breakfast. Harper pretty much slept through that though, so I’ll see what we can find to eat around here after she wakes up. If she gets up early enough, maybe we can visit my Mom or something.
This would have made much more sense than tariffs:
One of Mexico’s largest sources of foreign exchange is the $63 billion in remittances that Mexican citizens and family members send back home. Those yanqui dollars buck up the Mexican peso, giving extra purchasing power to Mexican citizens. As Professor Hanson suggests, why not slap a 20% tax on these remittances? It would put Mexico on notice that the good old days of American appeasement are in the past and make the Mexican people pay a tangible price for their government’s misbehavior.
That would be another form of tariff. But what I’m seeing with the current administration’s deal-making skill is that we may actually be heading in a positive direction. Ie. as a lever for policy change abroad, as you suggest, as well as a lever for change domestically. I’m not nearly as worried as some are as regards some of these ideas, because I’m seeing, so far, the clever ways in which they are being applied or even merely posited.
Good morning and happy Sunday, GN.
Good luck with the kittens, Paddy -- I’m sure they will be just fine. Good too to read how your family sticks together.

Hi dv8 (and Harper!)!
I hope your trip goes well. It sounds like you’ve planned it out to be as restful as possible, which is a good thing.
Safe travels and wishing Miss Harper the best.
Not quite toe bean pics.
He’s a good looking cat, Paddy.
That’s Gigi. I’ll see if I can get a picture of Murray sometime this week.

Not really -- the only one affected is the person sending the money to Mexico. No cost increase for any products passed on to consumers.
That’s true.
See if you can submit this idea to someone that matters using your 6 degrees of separation, Perhaps the right person will see it.
