Hi Dv8, and good morning GN. Check in, Mac, so we know how you are doing.
A busy week behind us with minimal medical chores. Met friends for dinner one night and then my brother came into town for a visit for a few days. Nice to have some normalcy.
Sorry not to check in. I am OK. The pain has been bad as the surgeon told me not to use the Neosporin, which means no lidocaine, and he wrapped the foot and leg in a pressure bandage to deal with the swelling. By that night I could not handle the pain so I unwrapped it have gone back to using the Neosporin. It was better but about 4am the pain woke me up and I had to change the bandage again. That and a tramadol let me sleep some more. I hate pain killers but the tramadol has been letting me get to sleep. He prescribed some antibiotics in case it gets infection. I did find a wound specialist in network though he is 40 minutes to an hour away. I got the referral sent yesterday so I hope to see him Wednesday, maybe. I am OK but just not good for much. Can’t get into shoes for a while. The surgeon was good but this is just not what he treats. He did give me the contact info for a wound specialist but she was also out of network. I was going to see her anyway and pay out of pocket but then found this other doctor.
Glad you had a chance to unwind a bit. You are your dear Mrs. are always in our thoughts.
I’m sorry, Mac, that your leg is not getting better -- I think the antibiotics are a good suggestion. For injuries such as you described, I tend to use the local Urgent Care clinics -- can always get in the same day and the care has been good -- one near you?
There is an excellent ER/UC place we have both used for years, and Elena has pushed me to go there. I just don’t feel it is called for at this point and have been trying to work in the system and get connected with proper specialists. I am a bit stubborn but I will go there if things look bad.
Elena wants me to start the antibiotics but I think it better to hold them until I see signs of infection. When I told the doctor it did not seem infected he said “but close.” so I am watching it.
I hate to disagree with you and I do so with humility, but this sounds serious. I’ve found that as we age, little things that we ignored and overcame in our youth, can turn into bigger problems easily. I would suggest you go now -- waking up due to pain is a very bad sign -- along with the not healing.
Don’t make me post 53 coon memes!
Happy “SplatterDay”, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, dv8 (and Harper!), Sven, and Mac!
It’s good to see you all here today.
Sven -- I’m glad you and Mrs. Sven have had some normalcy. You both need it.
Mac -- I agree with Sven. The size alone makes this a big issue. In the meantime, you can get lidocaine spray, oil, cream, etc. to address the pain without the addition of the neosporin. 4% lidocaine is available without a prescription. That might be enough to allow you wear the compression bandage for a while.
Thank you, my friends. I will take your advice on the antibiotics and start them today. Elena will be happy. I just did not want to not have them if an infection starts later but that is probably foolish, I can always get more if needed.
I will go to the ER if it gets much worse but I think I will be seeing the wound specialist before that.
A small plane crashed into a residential area about 8 miles from us a couple of hours ago -- no real details. Crashed into a home and some other homes on fire.
I was brought up to respect books and treat them carefully, probably because of my dad’s experience living in poverty. I internalized that to not dog-earing pages, let alone writing in the margins or highlighting passages. Practices that hampered me in college.
All of that is a long way of saying no, that has never happened to me, while on the other hand saying I completely understand it.
I would dog-ear, but not make notes -- now I do both. It’s odd tho. It makes me wonder what was so meaningful to me years ago that I marked the page, but that now means nothing.
lol on the thread pic : )

I had to pick up drugs today and noticed that while waiting.

Good on you -- coon images on hold.

Seems like a lot of aviation incidents lately. I don’t know if any Teslas were involved.
I’m glad the loss of life was so low. That could have been much more catastrophic.
Happened a couple of times to me today -- opened an old book of mine with dog-eared pages, re-read the page, and see no reason why I bookmarked it.
That ever happen to you guys?
