Watched a couple of movies yesterday. One was Black Rain starring Michael Douglas from like 40 years ago. Kind of a buddy-cop movie with NY cops chasing down a yakuza gang leader in Japan. It’s a good movie.
The other I rented on Amazon Prime: The Return. It’s a slightly different telling of the Odyssey with Odysseus returning to Ithica as a worn out weary old man. It stays true to Homer’s original and I particularly liked scenes such as where he is greeted by his old dog and he is recognized by his old nurse. It’s an acting and dialogue film with zero outlandish special effects.
I have Black Rain in my collection, we enjoyed that long ago. It has Michael Douglas and lots of action so Elena loved it. I am a fan of Ken Takakura so I liked it too.
We recently watched The Return and we liked it. I was not sure if Elena would like it but she did.
Elena is not usually a big fan of dialog driven movies that I might really like, but sometimes they hook her. We have been watching the series, Rome. It has action but I also like some of the cultural portrayals. I stop and explain some of these so she can follow better. She has been very hooked on it. Six episodes to go.
It just came to my attention recently so I downloaded it and burned it to DVDs so we could watch it. (Actually I downloaded it in 2023 but never looked at it until recently.)
Yes, several times. Very good. Sometimes I went to watch a particular part and got hooked for the rest of the movie. Advantage of having these in my collection.
I do have Mr Baseball and really only watched it because of him.
Good morning and a blessed Sunday, GN.
A blessed Sabbath, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!
Mrs. Paddy and I helped a friend pack his kitchen for a move yesterday. It’s amazing how much stuff can be in a kitchen.
Indeed, and good morning, Paddy.

I was surprised too that Mrs Sven enjoyed it.

Wow. I had forgotten all about that series -- good one to rewatch.

More on Today’s thread Monday
Heya Mac we finally got your hard drive going!! It’s perfect! It does in fact work directly with the TV ! ! ! ! ! 111
I have been a fan of Ken Takakura since seeing him in The Yakuza from 1974. This movie has long been high on my list and I have watched it many times.
I like him as well but only recognized him from the Selleck movie Mr. Baseball.
Good action movies -- have you watched The Replacement Killers, Mac, with Chow Yun-Fat? One of my favorites.
