Heya gang! I just wanted to to say thanks again to Mac for the Hard Drive.

It works perfectly directly plugged into the TV, as I suspected. I woke up this morning willing to brave the unknown, so I decided today was the day to set it up. No problems at all!!!

Thanks again. Harper will be thrilled.

I’m sure we will… I’m amazed at how big hardrives have gotten. I remember when 1.2 gig cost a fortune and was only used by digital audio and video professionals : )

Well… All that inflation, I guess. But one thing I’ll say is that I usually do not expect tech stuff to “work perfectly on the first try” ™ But in this case, they really did. I just put the power supply in the drawer ran it out to behind the TV, plugged it into the drive, plugged the drive into the TV by the USB “super” cable, (or whatever they’re called) and it just worked! No need to host it on a video server from my gaming rig. Much awesomeness!

Also… Harper is amazed at how much stuff we’re going to be able to discover!!

We had so much fun watching the first part of Lord of the Rings in Spanish. It was fun because we both know the movies and the stories so well. I figured that there are probably a few Spanish dubs on there because you watch certain things like that with Elana. It gave us both the warm fuzzies!!!

Ah, I see. Well… Also… I suspect there are some files in there my TV can’t play as well as languages it can’t use. If I hook the drive up to my laptop and use the video server, or just switch to the laptop, I’m guessing there are even more movies and TV shows.

I say that because some of the TV Show folders appear to be empty, or mostly empty, so probably some of the formats aren’t readable by the the TV directly. So I’ll have to investigate that later on.

Right now we’re watching the movie where the guy, who’s running for governor falls in love with a witch. It feels like it might have been the inspiration for Bewitched although this is a pretty old movie. 40s or 50s, I think. It’s in black and white. But it’s quite delightful : )

I’ll try hooking it up to the TV laptop to see what’s available from there. I might want your guidance for changing video formats. It’s been a while for me. So it sounds like you’re more familiar with doing all that than I am. Although… I think I may have a video conversion utility around somewhere. Doesn’t VLC have plugins for that?

A peaceful, reflective Memorial Day, Gerbil Nation.
Good afternoon, dv8 (and Harper!), Mac, and Sven!

I came down with something yesterday and slept until 11:30 this morning. When Mrs. Paddy left to visit her mom, then go into work, she told me to “rest, and drink a lot”. Well, I don’t do Uber, and don’t have much beer in the fridge, so I’m just going to have to do the best I can [/sarc].

I’m listening to a speech given by Eugene Sledge to the Mises Institute about the realities of front-line troops in the Pacific in WWII -- specifically his experience on Okinawa. It’s fascinating.

Mac -- stay safe.
