The brake lights on Teh Older’s vehicle are stuck on. He’s coming over this morning so we can work on the problem. Hopefully it will be easy to diagnose and an easy fix.
I had that problem a couple of times with my Nissan PU. It was the rubber or plastic bumper that hits the brake light switch, it had gotten old and broke apart. Easy to fix but hard to find. Had the same thing happen on the clutch pedal, causing the transmission interlock to prevent starting. Remembering the brake issue made that easier to find. This was on an older truck, 2001, so the material deteriorated.
That was exactly the problem, Mac. The plastic bumper had broken into several pieces -- which we found on the floorboard. I put an appropriately-sized machine screw with a button head in the hole where the plastic part went and tightened it down with a nut. After adjusting the switch position, it works just fine. The hardest part was crawling under the dash to work on things. I’m not as flexible as I used to be.
Happy Caturday, Gerbil Nation!

Kind of nice -- a hardware/mechanical problem instead of some weird electrical or software issue.
Yes, it was -- and it saved Teh Older some money.
Not surprised you sorted it out quickly.
I hope your issue proves easy to sort out.
