I agree on the major appliance front. Our dryer is still going strong after 40 years and when we had to replace our washer, we purchased a fully mechanical one.
In the automotive field, electronic ignition eliminated the need to replace points and condensers every 5000 miles. Direct fuel injection has added HP without increasing engine size. You no longer need to rebuild/replace engines every 100,000 miles. The costs, though, have become obscene.
Apropos of nothing, I’ve grown fond this summer of making vegetable soups. Yesterday was some onion, cauliflower, broccoli, garlic, and red peppers sauteed until softened and then thrown in a pot with chicken broth. Cooked for about 20 minutes and then ground up with an immersion blender. Added some half and half and done.
Yep! I can choke down maybe two bites before I literally wretch. I’m not a huge brussels sprouts fan, either, but I’ve had a few good preparations of them that were enjoyable. Beets are a solid no. They taste like dirt. Mrs. Paddy loves them and will get heirloom beet salads when we go out. I’ve tried lots of different beets and they all taste like dirt. Not bad, like cauliflower, just like eating a spoonful of dirt.
Happy “Back to Work” Monday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!
I’ve only got 132 unviewed work emails to wade through, plus another couple dozen that I opened, then ignored. I’ve got my yearly training modules to work through (child abuse, harassment, safe workspace, etc.) so I’ll try to get some of those knocked out today.
Off to UCLA to plan out our assault on Mrs. Sven’s “minor” cancer. Treatment timing is still contingent on the status of the “major” cancer and just how far Mrs. Sven wants to take this. Wish us luck.
Thank you, gentlemen. We are still up in the air as to timing, but we at least know the tasks at hand. If all goes well, we should be able to put the whole thing together by the end of the month.
Thread pic: Good effort -- next time you’ll make it!
Happy Monday, GN.

Other than the cauliflower -- which I can’t stomach -- that sounds good!
OH NO!! Paddy is a cauliphobe!?!? Say it isn’t so!

Cauliflower and Brussels sprouts are two favorites but I only like them boiled or steamed with butter, salt, and pepper.

They train you on how to sexually harass?
Every blessed year! Apparently I haven’t done well enough, because I have to keep repeating the course!

Wishing you the best of luck and comfort.
Good luck to you both!

Prayers that all goes well.
