Teh Younger sent a photo this morning from work. His outfit for the day includes a scarf wrapped around his face and a knit beanie. It’s 25 degrees and windy.
Mac -- an appreciation for music can be a source of great joy in life. One doesn’t have to be able to create it to enjoy it.
That’s very true. Many musicians are what you might call “Power Listeners,” but many Power Listeners are not musicians. There’s plenty you can learn to improve your listening acumen without ever singing or playing a single note.
I rarely do that. The discomfort I feel in a crowd overwhelms any advantage. My ears have collected enough damage over the years that the finer subtleties are lost anyway. For the same reason I do not bother with high definition video or very high definition audio, I just can’t appreciate it enough to be worth it. My mid size Bose speakers are about the best I can want.
I’m the same way, Mac, in terms of hearing damage and ignore the differences between really good audio and OK audio. Some years back you emailed me a list of classical music to listen to -- I went through some of it and then stopped for no good reason. Need to get back into it -- there’s live performances monthly nearby and I think we are now in a place where we can get out experience a few things.
Thoughts on rock artists/bands performing with orchestras? I like it…for the most part. Depends on the band. In this one, Tommy Shaw from Styx performs with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra several years ago. It was a good song when it came out 40 odd years ago and this is a nice take on it -- and it’s fun watching the kids.
Amazon delivery just now. CA has once again banned plastic bags at stores and the ones from the market have been the perfect kitchen trash bags for years. So I ordered a couple hundred from Amazon -- same size, same thickness. And this makes sense how?
A blessed Sabbath, Gerbil Nation!

Good morning, Paddy. Hope teh Younger stays warm and safe.
Mac, do you get a different musical appreciation when listening to a live performance?

Speaking of opera, what did you think of Christopher Macchio -- the tenor that performed at several Trump events? I liked him.
I did not see him. I will look for him. Thank you.
I also prefer the stereo. Live performances are either too loud or in the case of classical ones, way to quiet. Never in the Goldilocks zone.

Huh? What?
Looking at the book thread over at AoS -- sad to see how poor its gotten in the years since Oregon Muse passed on.

Harder, but even better. Metallica performing with the San Francisco Symphony doing The Outlaw Torn.

I like virtually all genres of music, so I love a good performance regardless of the instrumental makeup.
Good to see you, Dv8 -- very cool.
