Yesterday when leaving the oncologist’s office at UCLA, I noticed they had a sign at the reception desk saying the office would be closed this Friday. I asked the woman why they were closed -- thinking it was some sort of medical/staffing thing -- and she said it was for Cesar Chavez Day but they couldn’t spell that out directly as it might offend people due to the recent public disclosures.
One can hope, but this seems to be more of a one-off than a sign of peak wokeness. That it’s a latinx is unusual and the pressure to remove his public recognition from his causes coming from teh left is also unusual. My guess is that it will remain a holiday or become a month of celebration like black history or pride months are now. They’ll just rebrand it.
Happy Gluesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven, and Mac!
Apparently Cesar Chavez’s feelings towards illegal immigrants is only recently becoming wide-spread. I’ve heard some posit that as the reason for his sudden erasure from history. Inconvenient facts at an inconvenient time.
But why now? Yes, an accuser came out now, but his crimes/transgressions have been speculated on for years. The UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center put out a post on Facebook denouncing Chavez and the comments have been close to 50/50 on it.
Almost through with Season 2 of SoA. Definitely not as clean/streamlined as the first season -- too many different story arcs and the plot lines begin to lean towards unbelievable and predictable. My opinion is that Sutter/FX had a great story that could have been told in 3 seasons, but he extended it to 7 and had to add in a bunch of filler.
Thread pic: Good advice regardless of species.
And happy Tuesday, GN.

So wokeness has reached the stage of eating itself? One wokeness dare not virtue signal for fear of offending other wokeness?
