Our first brush fire of the year kicked off half an hour ago. About 6 miles west of us, windy, couple of homes /structures already gone, evac orders in effect for that part of Simi Valley. Hard to tell which way it will go as the winds have been not all that strong, but changing direction. They ought to be able to contain it as plenty of resources, but we’ll se ehow it goes. For now, just keeping an eye on it.
It’s up to 500 acres now and moving south through the hills. Some gusty winds but nothing steady. Wind direction will change in a couple of hours, but they should be able to keep it contained and before it hits the next towns: Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, etc.
If I were Steve Hilton or Chad Bianco, I’d be upping my security.
When asked about the possibility of ending up with two Republican candidates for governor and no Democrats, Gavin Newsom responded: “We all have agencies. We can shape the future… I don’t anticipate this need to be the case, but there is a ‘break the glass scenario.’ There’s many people that have a deep understanding of what it would look like if Democrats were locked out, and we’re going to do everything to make sure that doesn’t happen. I’ll leave it there.”
Bit of a bummer. The winds changed as predicted and they’ve put out an evacuation warning to the zone immediately east of us -- that’s about 3 miles east. It’s not fast-moving, so we’ll have time if things do go wonky. Just keeping an eye on things -- not packing up until the warning is/if extended. Got an escape route planned and places to stay and we know what to take, have bags for it all, and can be ready to go in 30 minutes.
Despite all the news coverage, local and national, this is not a major Santa Ana type of fire event. It’s terrain-driven with some wind pushing it this way and that. They should be able to hit it from the air during the night and there’s no other major fires so resources shouldn’t be a problem.
Well, for no good reason that I can see, things are getting worse. Still well south of us but moving to get due south, over a range, and a couple of miles off. Time to start packing.
Thanks -- Mrs Sven is out of here. I’ll follow her in a bit. Packed up. Not much action. No wind. closest flames maybe 6 miles off. It’s an unnecessary evac. Half the street is still here.

It being SoCal, local reporting is blaming climate change.
Happy Fiery Monday, Gerbil Nation!
Good afternoon, Sven!
Sven -- I just heard about the fire in your area. I hope the winds continue to blow to the west and that they can get a handle on this quickly.

I wish you the best. Please take no chances.
Well, they’ve upgraded us to an order. No immediate threat but getting ready. See you guys.
Good luck!
