Mrs. Paddy is taking a sabbatical this month to get a better handle on her mom’s healthcare and support needs. Between an outside service, Mrs. Paddy, and her sister, someone is with my MiL every day, although not all day. She sleeps late, so there has been no need for morning support. My BiL installed a camera in her bedroom and another outside her front door so we can keep track of her sleep habits. Mrs. Paddy was finally able to get someone to come out and perform a hospice assessment (she doesn’t qualify). We were hoping the same person could do a palliative care evaluation, but that’s a different person, so that needs to be scheduled. A board and care facility would be able to provide better care, but she is adamant about staying in her home, and as of now, she knows that she is at home. She misses her husband and is tired. We hope and pray that she doesn’t suffer in mind or in body.
Good morning, Paddy. It’s a tough call figuring out what’s the best path forward and what you are able to do. I kick myself at times for not moving back in with my folks in their last days, but I also know that it would not have been doable.
If it wouldn’t have been doable, then there’s no use in kicking yourself. I wish I had called my dad more often, but I also wish my brother had told me how our dad was doing, rather than keeping me in the dark.
I tried to look up my primary care physician on my insurance website to schedule my annual physical. The website has some serious issues, as it said there were no providers -- of any type -- within 100 miles. The search links also all failed. After calling the second support number -- the first was “disconnected and no longer in service” -- Sanjay told me my doctor was no longer in-network. Great! Now I get to search once again for a decent doctor.
