Last night we were talking about the pandemic and the lack of an after action report, lack of openness and accountability, and the lack of a new plan for when the next crisis hits. The list of failures for the covid response is long and pretty much known at least for those paying attention, but what about the things that actually worked? I was thinking about remote work -- that many corporations were able to transition to completely remote work model in a matter of weeks. For all my complaints about teh bestest place ever, they were able, at least for corporate workers, to get remote up and running in a week. I also give them credit for adopting this work model going forward 3 months later. That took some guts especially since in early 202o we had just begun moving to a new corporate campus of five buildings designed to house 2000 employees.
So what other success were there? And another example of a complete and utter failure:

I took Mrs. Paddy’s car into the shop that fixed the weather strip problem on my car. She needed an oil change, tire rotation, air and cabin filter change, and transmission fluid change. I’ll change the filters and there’s no point rotating the tires since we’re replacing them in a week or so. I wanted to see what their prices were like and how much pushback I’d get for declining services. There was no pushback at all and the service was done in a reasonable amount of time. The technicians send you pictures of everything as part of the diagnostic process and you can authorize services from your smartphone. I think I’ve found a new repair shop (since my old one closed).
A good garage is worth its weight in, if not gold, at least silver. The mechanic that we go to out here does the same thing with pictures of everything. No complaints after maybe 7 years.
A good shop is a blessing. Just had a similar service on Elena’s car Monday-Tuesday. I did have the tires rotated. Our shop is not cheap but they are very good and very honest. I consider them excellent value and that is most important to me.
