Thread pic: An “A” for getting things done.

Good morning,GN. I keep hearing the “Woke 2” term throughout political discussions and wondered where it came from. If AI can be trusted:

The term “Woke 2” (or Woke 2.0) originated from a viral June 2025 conceptual art project and blog post by San Francisco designer Chris Beiser. It later spread as a leftist satirical meme and a political media buzzword used to describe a perceived shift in progressive politics.

  • The Original Document: San Francisco-based tech worker Chris Beiser published an anonymous PDF manifesto titled “Woke 2” filled with dry, koan-like musings on a hypothetical second wave of progressive culture. He later claimed authorship on his website. [1]
  • Leftist Irony: Online leftist circles and commentators adopted the phrase as a tongue-in-cheek joke or fever dream about the reemergence of social justice discourse, poking fun at performative corporate liberalism. [1, 2]
  • Political Retronym: Mainstream political pundits and strategists latched onto the term—creating the retronym “Woke 1” for the 2020-era social justice climate—to debate whether modern progressives are pivoting away from surface-level identity politics toward material economic issues. [1, 2, 3]

I’ve come to the conclusion that the problem with most university-educated youths is that they’ve confused college with real life as opposed to college preparing them for adult life.

I remember running into a very liberal HS friend about 15 years after graduation. All she talked about was how much she missed college -- all the stimulating courses and discussions -- and wanted to go back. It was sad.

We had dinner with a couple last night -- the guy put his kid through college and he ended up with two degrees. Came out as an annoying liberal to the point where he was correcting us and his father about the words we used as he said they were offensive -- not to anyone in the room but to whichever protected groups we referred to improperly. He got work for a time at some liberal lobbyist group that lasted for like 8 months and then he came back to California. Every time we see them, I ask how his boy is doing -- a couple of years back he wasn’t working and told him he wouldn’t accept a job for less than $100K a year. That apparently didn’t work out and he’s now working at a liquor store and living for free in his mother’s house.

It’s not like he’s a kid anymore -- he must be 26 or so -- but he’s all about climate change, progressive agenda items, and saving the world. Sad.

Happy “OSH!T” Monday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!

Vacation is over and it’s back to work for Paddy. So far I’ve whittled down my inbox to 118 unread emails and a dozen or so that require action.

We discovered a new spice at the Mediterranean restaurant: Sumac. Great on meat. Bought some and have to see if store-bought is a s good as what we had Saturday.

I’ve seen sumac in some recipes, but never come across it when looking for spices. I hope you were able to get a quality product.

It looks somewhat different -- when we go back I’ll have to ask for more details

Our friendly squirrel has discovered how to use the kitty door. I’ve forgotten how clever they can be.

Oh boy! Can you now expect regular visits, during the day and the night?

Yeah, maybe. She’s very quiet about things and was totally unafraid to explore the house. Got to keep the patio door fully closed now cuz even open a couple of inches with the screen door closed gives her enough of an opening to get in.

She’s an odd squirrel. She showed up a couple of months back pretty brash and she’s not part of the squirrel mob that comes by every morning to get seeds that the birds knock out of their feeder. For a while she was territorial and chased others off, but now they all seem to tolerate each other. She usually eats some food we give her, pokes around and then leaves. Now, I don’t know.

Years ago when the one-eyed coon ruled the yard, she’d be patient waiting for us until time was up. Then she’d come up, grab the screen and fling it open, then sit down politely and wait for her grapes.
