Hi, Paddy -- I wonder about the definition of “wild.” Are there truly any “wild” animals left in the world? All species over the last 10,000 years have had serious interactions with human civilization that have reduced their populations -- how have they evolved via natural selection -- how different are they today from their truly wild ancestors?
That being written, I think teh coon might be better behaved if it ran into a wild duck instead of that domesticated one. The domestic duck is probably grappling with its gender or species identity leading it to spend more time searching for acceptance and virtue signaling rather than survival.
Just got home from The Big Route. One of our carriers is out of state; which means his papers go in the mail; which means The mail takes much longer; which means I was expecting the whole shebang to take me 14 hours; actually, I clocked out at around 13, so I did better than anticipated.
Day before yesterday, I went to cottonwood and bought some herbs at the nursery down there. Only one wasn’t available that was on Harper’s master list of herbs to get. Anyway I also got some creeping thyme, which wasn’t on the list. I was tempted to get some cilantro, but I’ve had such a hard time getting it to grow that I chickened out on that.
While I was down in Cottonwood, I got some clothes, as I was short a few pieces in my rotation. I also bought a cast iron griddle; I was tired of dealing with the alloy one we had that has been warped for a long time, so I got a new one, and threw out the old one.
When our friend Frank was dying in hospice, someone brought in an Amazon Echo Dot-Alexa thingie. It sat there for days before we really noticed it and once we figured out what it was, we would get Alexa to play music for him.
Never been interested in Alexa before, and after hearing all the horror stories about privacy, never thought to get one. Besides, we have a dumb house and it seems like this AI is more suited to houses where it can control EVERYTHING. Anyhow, bought one for Mrs Sven and have been playing with it a bit. Interesting contraption. Mostly have it playing music; the sound quality for a little tiny speaker is amazing. I do catch myself treating it like it’s alive -- like saying thank you to it -- but then I do talk to my truck at times so it’s probably OK.
BTW, I completely forgot -- Happy Urff Day!
Turn on your lights heat or cool your home (or do both!), refrigerate your food, go on a drive, wash clothes using an automated machine with modern detergents, then wear that clothing made of miracle fibers!
Do we need to take a private plane to work, like our virtue signalling betters? If not, do we need to leave our car engines idling so the car is cool when we come out like Al Gore does?
A young man came to my door a while ago to talk to me about Greenpeace. I am afraid he did not feel welcome. He left like a vandal leaving damaged Nazca lines. I did not even get to bring up Leni Riefenstahl.
I did not make the possible Earth Day connection until I read your comment. That could have been fun. I am old enough to remember the early Earth Day warnings about a new ice age. Funny, the cold climate was supposed to cause rising sea levels and coastal flooding, just like warming climate does.
The biggest mistake the environmental movement made was embracing global warming/climate change as the umbrella issue for all things environment. There’s real problems and issues, but most of them don’t relate to that and they get lost in the shuffle.
True. And condoning and supporting terrorists like Sea Shepard is a terrible mistake in my mind. To me he is no better than a fanatic driving women off the road as they drive home from the market because they bought meat.
The young man had a Greenpeace shirt on and a clipboard. The first thing he asked was my name. This was a bad start, a very bad start. One does not ring my phone or my doorbell and demand my name. NO! Had he introduced himself I might have fallen back on good manners, at least at first, but he did not and I did not.
He asked me if I knew about or had heard of Greenpeace. I think I may have sputered a bit as I said I had and I strongly opposed them. He lit out quickly.
Well, had I made the Earthday connection I might have engaged more, but I was just too annoyed by the intrusion and his mistake at the start. He was pleasant and polite enough in his manner, but got off to a bad start. Had we started a discussion I expect he would have headed out quickly in any case.
I’ve got another 4-5 hours worth of work tonight and then much more during the weekend, but a good chunk of time is waiting for things to run, so I’m bouncing through the intertubes. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are in some big trial -- I know who Depp is, but I’d never heard of Amber Heard. The only thing I know about her now is that sliced off part of Depp’s finger and shat on his bed.
She is not in his league for sure. She was in the Aquaman/Justice League movies if you saw those. I don’t think she is high level but I could be wrong, I just never had much interest in her.
I had to chuckle today -- my boss is fleeing CA for Colorado Springs -- he’s a diehard leftie, but also said he was tired of the fires out here and is flying to CO today to look at a house. So I had a meeting scheduled with another guy today who texted me and said he may have to evacuate from his house due to fire and needed to reschedule. He said for me to not worry about the fire as he doesn’t live near me anymore. I asked him where he moved to. Colorado Springs.
My main PC has had an intermittent buzz since I transferred it to it’s current case last year. It was so persistant and annoying today I figured I better do something before I destroyed it completely. I have another case I may transfer it to if need be but I hate to do that, so I opened it up and did some work. I had two may culprits in mind, an older drive I left in when I reconditioned it and whatever drive was in the bottom spot in the drive rack, a place well sited to cause resonance. It turned out that very drive was in that spot, so I pulled it out. After checking all the fans I padded the feet and put it back together. It has been behaving quite well since so that may have gotten it. I was a bit muzzy from that and a new med I started this week when Greenpeace came calling, so that did not help. At least it is quiet.
Lazy. I should have pulled it out when I rebuilt this. It was a ten year old 1 1/2 TB drive from the original setup. I have not used it and it is too small to do much with now. This computer now has a 500 GB SSD, and a 4 TB, 6 TB, and 8 TB drive inside. Even the 4 TB is kind of a spare room setup, not really needed but handy. The 8 TB has my movies, I always had to use external drives for that. The internal is much nicer. I already have a 500 GB SSD, a 6 TB and 10 TB HDD for my next computer. I expect I will need a new one to run Win 11.
Well, over 7,500 movies, TBs of TV shows, and a lot of music as opera and ballet videos. The 8TB is movies, with a 10 TB external drive for backup. The 6 TB is other storage, TV, music, pictures, documents, programs, etc. I also have a 6 TB external drive I connect for backups of the internal 6 TB and back ups of the boot drive. The external drives are only connected when being used. I also sync my movies and 6 TB drive with my other PC so it is another back up that I could use right away if needed. I sync the desktops as well.
Ok, I’m done for a night after doing a Dv8-like day and another one tomorrow and at least part of Sunday. Thanks for keeping me company, Mac. My best to Elena.
Came across this -- it’s from 10 years ago and on Earth Day, seems appropriate.
So Biden said. “We’re going to start the process where every vehicle in the United States military, every vehicle, is going to be climate-friendly — every vehicle — I mean it.”
And “Meanwhile, the president also said that he met with leaders of the American automobile industry, announcing that they came to an agreement on an “ambitious goal” of having 50% electric vehicles sales by year 2030.”
No plans shared for the production and distribution of the extra electricity we will need or upgrades to the already overtaxed infrastructure.
So the military has to take parts off some aircraft to keep others flying, under Democrat administrations, but we will divert money from personnel, operations, and training, to making military vehicles “green”.
Will we be replacing those nasty soldiers with councilors and mediators? Crisis managers?
Coons are naturally good-hearted creatures, until they run into bad influences, like ducks.
Happy Friday, GN!
Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!
Sven -- you’re absolutely right about ducks. The one in the thread pic is a domestic duck -- just think how much more trouble a wild duck would cause.

Very true, Sven. I’m pretty sure the duck is also wrestling with its white privilege.
I call BS. It is clear which one wears a mask. It’s like the animal version of a hoodie.
Maybe he was just following CDC guidelines? Which indicates which animal is more law-abiding.
Good morning, everyone.

Good morning, dv8!
I’ve never had much luck growing herbs. They last awhile, then die. I don’t think I harvest my basil enough to keep it thick.
Hi, Dv8. We’ve had some luck growing herbs hydroponically inside, but whatever gets grown outside ends up getting eaten. Glad you got some new duds.
It’s probably the ducks that are eating them, then convincing the raccoons to join them.

Talking to vehicles is essential if you want to keep them happy and running properly.
BTW, I completely forgot -- Happy Urff Day!

At the very least! If you could fire up your electric smelter and start with bauxite, that would be preferable.
There’s no marches out here today in favor of Mother Earth -- I think it’s conflicting with the NATIONAL DAY OF SILENCE.
A young man came to my door a while ago to talk to me about Greenpeace. I am afraid he did not feel welcome. He left like a vandal leaving damaged Nazca lines. I did not even get to bring up Leni Riefenstahl.
You should have just screamed at him. IT’S A NATIONAL DAY OF SILENCE; WHAT ARE YOU, TRANSPHOBIC, HOMOPHOBIC, QUEERPHOBIC, OR ALL THREE!!!!
That might have been interesting, but I might have choked on it.
I did not make the possible Earth Day connection until I read your comment. That could have been fun. I am old enough to remember the early Earth Day warnings about a new ice age. Funny, the cold climate was supposed to cause rising sea levels and coastal flooding, just like warming climate does.

Did you ever watch Whale Wars on Animal Planet? There was that great episode where Watson claimed to have been shot by a whaler.
I did not. How did that work out for him. I am surprised he has not been fired on and sunk given the life threatening actions he takes.
I didn’t know that Greenpeace was still a thing.
“Where are your manners, young man? In Brenda’s dryer?”
He asked me if I knew about or had heard of Greenpeace. I think I may have sputered a bit as I said I had and I strongly opposed them. He lit out quickly.
It may have been a bit of a feral look in my eye.
Not very interested in dialogue or discussion, eh?

I saw that CNN’s new streaming service bit the dust after three weeks -- I wonder if Elon Musk would be interested in buying it?
I heard he offered $3.50? But that might not be quite accurate (but then neither is CNN).
If not quite accurate, it’s probably close enough.
I’ve got another 4-5 hours worth of work tonight and then much more during the weekend, but a good chunk of time is waiting for things to run, so I’m bouncing through the intertubes. Nothing says class, like crapping on your husband’s bed. She probably has a cat.
She might have learned that from a cat.
She didn’t learn it from a coon, that’s for sure.

Lefties do like to take their troubles with them. Wonder why Californians are so unwelcome in red states?
