It might just be me, but some mornings it just feels really good to pee outside off the back porch and then to blow your nose into the nearest patch of weeds.
Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning Sven, Fatwa and Jerry!!!11!!
I take it that it is a bit frigid in Bountiful?
I skimmed through the Calguns decision last night. The judge spent a lot of time on the idea of standing and if the plaintiffs had it. In the end, he decided that since you can still purchase handguns in California, there was no infringement of the 2nd Amendment and the plaintiffs had not suffered any harm (the plaintiff with no right arm could purchase a Glock similar to what he wanted and then have a gunsmith install an ambidextrous safety. ) I wonder if he’d rule the same when no new handguns are offered for sale in CA due to the requirement for micro-stamping?
So I guess any limit on speech is OK as long as people can still say something that is approved ahead of time by the government?
Does this kind of thing make it OK to limit abortions as long as women (at least the ones with vaginas) can still get some abortions that are listed as approved by the government?
I won’t even mention searches and seizures since that is pretty much gone unless you are a member of the ruling class with bribe money stored in your freezer.
Funny how the made up rights in the Constitution are so much more sacred than the ones written in by the founders.
Yeah, it’s funny how many rights are systematically limited and restricted. I guess “shall not be infringed” doesn’t mean what I always thought it meant. The California state constitution does not have an analogue to the 2nd Amendment, but it does contain an explicit right to self-defense. How are we supposed to exercise that right when the State has consistently denied citizens the right to the tools of self-defense?
Given the Second Amendment was intended to arm citizens against a usurping government it seems odd the government gets to decide what arms are allowed.
Well let’s see, blunderbusses with nerf bullets should be enough to take on an abusive government, let’s go with that as “bearing arms”.
I just called my Rep’s local office to ask why she voted to continue funding the DHS (H.J.R. 35) on a short-term basis. The young male who answered the phone had to put me on hold, then asked if he could call me back. Being a reasonable person, I said that would be fine. I’ll let all y’all know what happens.
Addendum(b): I still haven’t gotten a response from the two emails I sent to her office earlier this year -- no surprise there.
I actually got a response! Once the communications director put together a statement and talking points, he sent them to the local office and the young man there shared these with me (DHS is an important component of our national security, which is why she voted to fund it, etc.). I called him out on this nonsense in a very polite way, educated him on reality, and asked him to pass my comments up the chain. I know it won’t do a whit of good, but there you have it.
That is a good haiku.
Hai, Sven!
Happy Larryville
Currently twenty-seven;
To hell with winter.

To fix what isn’t broken,
Pay more damned taxes!
Senate GOP

Squishy, weak-kneed scum!

Sorry, Ben Franklin;
We had a republic, but
Refused to keep it.
Good morning, Fatwa.

Heh.
Best to ensure you pee only on your own property, lest the tyrants send men with guns and dogs to arrest you for despoiling public lands.
That is all.

It’s OK because you can still buy a bat to defend yourself….Oh wait, that’s an illegal billy club.

Maybe, but you get no powder.
Leonard Nimoy has passed away.
I was not a big fan but I was still sad to see that.
