I shall be much warier of the raccoons (aka “Mrs. Sven’s Minions”) should I visit the Mountain Redoubt again.

It is expected an Oberlin (OH) jury will decide today upon punitive damages -- if any -- to be paid by the college to Gibson’s Bakery. Last week, the jury awarded $11.2M in compensatory damages to the Gibsons; under Ohio law, they could award an additional $22.4M plus attorney fees to the family.
Oberlin College is “crying poor”, despite assets exceeding $1.3B per their 2017 tax paperwork.
Legal Insurrection has done an excellent job covering this whole mess:
You don’t think $35K was a fair estimate of the value of Gibson’s Bakery? 👿
Best Man has a friend who has taught at the Oberlin Conservatory for years. Being a decent human being, he’s positively gleeful about last week’s jury decision and hopes the school gets whacked to the max re damages and legal fees.
Earlier this morning, SackO’SugarK literally LOL’d at the thought of “townies” on the jury having a nanogram of sympathy for the colleges finances.
I think if the school had any sense, they’d have tried like the dickens to settle out of court last week.
I, too, hope any appeal is rejected…”get woke, go broke”.
Sure Happy It’s Thursday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, Mac, and Sven!
Sven -- I see your raccoon has learned to parry in sixte and quarte, and has an interesting attack in quince.
Fatwa -- I hope the jury smacks down Oberlin good and hard. It’s clear that they haven’t learned their lesson and have no remorse for what they’ve put the Gibson family and their employees (most of whom were laid off) through. Adding attorneys’ fees would be the icing on the cake.
A well done to SpaceX today. First commercial launch of the Falcon Heavy and all three parts landed. I hope they can recover the one on the barge this time but an impressive feat in any case. It looks to have been a profitable launch as well.
Happy Thursday, Wheelizens!
Mac --

I am hoping they award a significant amount of that, and that an appeal is rejected. Brownshirts have no place in America.
The college’s pleas of poverty should get no more credibility than their estimate of the business’s value.

Coons -- is there nothing they can’t do?
Hi, Fatwa, and good morning, GN! Temps have dropped back into the bearable range, which is a blessing. Thanks, God.
The Blues finally won the Cup last night -- good for them.
I’m with you guys with hoping Oberlin gets it good and hard and that this is just the beginning.

Excellent! Especially given the fact that the military is reliant on Russian launch vehicles.
Drive-by newsflash:
Oberlin jury awarded Gibsons $33.2M in punitive damages alone…plus attorney fees. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Buwahahahahaha!
(Punitive might be reduced to $22.4M due to OH law, but also might not be.)
Happy dance!
Wonderful news, thank you!!
Now let’s hope they don’t have justice snatched from them. I wish I had more faith in our “justice” system. In any case I love the message sent.
I’m with you, Mac, but for right now this is quite a victory. It ought to be big national news -- wonder if the MSM will cover it all?
