=================
Were I a betting man, I’d wager few -- if any -- of you have ever heard of Alliance, OH. Less than 23K residents; smaller than 9 square miles.
And their own SWAT team.
A SWAT team which, not content to have an awful lot of military gear for such a dinky-ass municipality, as well as their own “training facility”, thought that it would be a swell idea to make a fairly elaborate video featuring the lot of them lip-syncing Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl” whilst dancing around with their “tacti-cool” gear…including weapons and APCs.
WTBloodyF??!?
Let’s celebrate the militarization of small town cops…yay!!!1!barneyfife!!
The town of West, Texas, gets destroyed by an explosion at a fertilizer plant. They ask for addl FEMA funds to rebuild infrastructure and are denied; cost estimates for rebuilding are around $57 million.
Residents of Sandy Hook Elementary School In Newtown, CT, vote to demolish and rebuild the school after last year’s shooting. Cost of rebuilding is estimated at $42 million and they want federal funds to do it.
Should either community receive federal funds? In a perfect America: no. Both are state or local matters. However, West has no choice; they have to rebuild-their town is already destroyed. Sandy Hook? They are making the choice to rebuild.
The justification for federal funds for Sandy Hook is guilt:
“I hope that we will get bipartisan support for this piece of legislation and we hope that senators who may have done the wrong thing on the gun legislation will do the right thing when it comes to helping Sandy Hook rebuild their school,” Sen. Murphy told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau. “There were a lot of senators who turned their backs on Newtown a month ago when they voted against the background checks bill. This legislation will give some of those senators a second chance to step up to the plate and help the families of Newtown.”
Newtown: The median income for a household in the town was $90,193, and the median income for a family was $99,192 (these figures had risen to $101,937 and $119,175 respectively as of a 2007 estimate). Males had a median income of $68,965 versus $42,217 for females. The per capita income for the town was $37,786. About 2.2% of families and 3.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.0% of those under age 18 and 3.9% of those age 65 or over.
West: The median income for a household in the city was $35,929, and for a family was $44,485. Males had a median income of $31,055 versus $27,917 for females. The per capita income for the city was $18,850. About 13.8% of families and 18.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 28.0% of those under age 18 and 13.9% of those age 65 or over.
Which town is more capable of rebuilding on their own?
I would expect that voter demographics will be factored into the Feds’ decision. Plus “revenge” on Rick Perry…especially for traveling to states like NY, CT and CA trying to “lure” businesses to TX.
AFAIC, the people in Newtown who voted to tear down the old school and spend a preposterous amount of public money to replace it ought to be beeyotch-slapped repeatedly. Un-farking-believably stupidmoronic too half-witted to continue drawing oxygen.
At risk of being too pointed: SCREW. THESE. PEOPLE. (Further, as Zappa once said, “May their shit come to life and kiss them on the lips.”)
If I had to guess, the town of West will do what Bastrop did after the fires ripped through there two years ago: rebuild it their own selves and be damn proud of it.
We’re used to getting snubbed by this TFG.
What little I do know, is every fire department in every fire district in the state is donating equipment. They’ll have stuff -- it’ll be a long time ’til they’ve got the volunteers. But every department in the district is ready to stand in for them if needed.
If I were the king of govt coin, I’d be more inclined to spend roughly the same amount of money to rebuild an entire town as opposed to one school in a town that has decided they want a new school.
I’m fairly tired of the Sandy Hook Families. Off to DC again to try to push through more gun control laws that wouldnt have stopped their killings anyhow. And I’m tired of being blamed for it cuz Im an NRA member.

Fascism with a smile! Which always makes that kind of thing easier for everybody.
I’m oddly reminded of this scene from the original film of “The Producers”
Sure Happy It’s Thursday, Gerbil Nation!
Fatwa -- I actually have heard of Alliance, Ohio. One of my former students attends Mount Union in Alliance.
Mount Union is apparently a pretty good school.
Something I find curious.

I’m using my little gray cells and remarking that the cat reminds me of Hercule Poirot.
Heh!
Heya, Joe!
TORNADERS to the left of me, TORNADERS to the right, stuck in the middle with you!
And to think my realtor assured me that I was NOT in a tornader area.
Mmmmmm…tournedos; *aughghghghghghghg!*
All kidding aside, be safe, Mr. Atrick.
Ditto. Be careful, Jerry.
BRB, gotta get my Ruby Slippers.
Found ’em, Jerry!
Oh, wait…

Syria has crossed Obama’s red line. Do I care? No. Should America care? No.
However, Obama will likely seize on this cuz that’s what he does. Wonderful distraction from everything else he’s messed up.
