To kind friends and absent companions.

I woke up in the middle of the night, so I’ll add moar floor here.

Moar Floor, Friday:

It did rain the night before, the weather turned cooler & more light showers fell Friday morning. Nacho & Barry came about 11:30. They asked if they could saw boards in the living room & we had no choice but to say yes. Aiy -yi- yi what a horrible sound!

We were in the dining room & each of us were using a computer. Then the power source on BW’s laptop caught fire & blew. I didn’t see the fire, but I smelled the smoke. BW & I decided to run errands. She wanted to talk to an upholstery shop down the street to see if they could fix her recliner.

Teh Mother had gotten if for her a year or so ago for her birthday. Well, she ordered it from some dept. store & we had to drive to Dallas to load it up in the truck. Already a bad omen. Sometime after that, a spring sprung & BW has been sinking on one side ever since. It was a Stratolounger. We have come to find out that they are notorious for breaking & NO ONE ON EARTH will repair them. I kept wanting to toss it, but BW was sentimental. Fine, sit in a sinking hole that stuffing with pillows won’t make it even!

The upholsterer said he didn’t do that work, but he knew a guy that would charge us around $100 to come out & replace the spring. He suggested BW get a couple of springs at Ace Hardware & try it herself first. So we did.

The next errand was to Office Depot. I was in there the day before and saw some office desk chairs on sale. The last time I hesitated on a sale, I lost out. BW also wanted a memory card for her digital camera. And of course the “Igogreen” universal adapter for the lap top. It was a closeout sale. The very helpful clerk told us that it wasn’t the latest model ,but he still used his. I told him that BW & I weren’t the latest models either & that one would be fine.

Over in the office furniture section, I realized that we would need a plastic floor mat to put under the desk chair. They had only one for hardwood floors. It was $45. For crying out loud. I didn’t want to get it, but didn’t want to look allover town for a cheaper one. BW saw a rolled up mat with a handwritten sku number & asked the clerk about it. He called for the info-I guess it was a return & said it was a $20. Sold. It didn’t have the fancy pattern but I didn’t care. It cost us $197 to “save” $116! Ha.

Back at the house, Nacho was flooring the master closet & Barry was doing quarter rounds . Barry asked me if I wanted the closet doors in the garage. What? I want the closet doors on the closets! They had taken down all the doors (except one bathroom door). Now the closets in the two small bedrooms were the bi-fold kind. They gave us some story about them not fitting, due to the raised floor height. I went & brought BW in for them to tell her the story. Now it turns into the rail at the top is stuck or something & we can’t just go buy new doors because these are not a standard size or something. We were not happy. Then Barry had an idea to soap the rail. Nacho banged on it with a hammer & screwdriver & they eventually were able to rehang the doors so that they closed. Not perfectly, but not with a gaping hole like the first showed us. Funny, the doors worked ok before they came. I can buy the part about the floor being higher, but the bent rail was at the TOP of the door. They must have damaged it when they took the doors off.

Then in the afternoon, Eddie called Barry to send him off on another job. He asked BW to call Eddie back & say that Barry needed to stay here & cleanup for awhile. She didn’t have a problem with that, the place was a wreck & the garage was still full. So they stayed & after awhile, Barry left. He said he would be here on Saturday to finish doing the “quarter rounds” in a few closets.

I am sick to death of the word Quarterrounds. A week ago, I had never heard the word. Now I’ve said it more times in two days than in my whole life.

Nacho was gathering up his tools & getting ready to leave. I walked into the bedroom & BW’s dresser is still sticking halfway out of the bathroom. We helped him move it out. He asked for the check again & I felt that I had to give it to him. I had overheard Barry talking about Eddie to Nacho saying telling Barry”If you don’t want to work for me, fine Nacho said that Barry would come on Saturday, but that he also might quit, so Nacho would finish out if he did…

So they left & I could finally do some sweeping & mopping. I had picked up Grace from the vet a little earlier & she was able to get out of her cage. BW & I got the computer back on my desk & hooked up & she actually replaced the spring on her recliner. But it still sags, She’s talking about getting some stuffing & trying to fix that part. Oh, Lord.

Moar Floor, Saturday:

The morning came & went . No Barry, no Nacho, no phone call. We thought he was probably at another job site. We waited all day . No one showed up. I guess Barry really did quit & Nacho wasn’t going to come on his day off.

Moar Floor, Sunday:

About 3pm, Barry called & asked if we were home. Um, you called my home phone, not BW’s cel, I thought to myself. I said yes we were home & he said he was on his way over. I didn’t care. BW had taken an extra day off to help get the house back together. There was still some work to be done, but I have no sense of how long each task would take. I did go room to room & make a checklist.

Barry came over, I was in the computer room & BW was in her saggy recliner using the laptop. I heard Barry apologizing for not showing up. He told a fishy sounding story about being in jail overnight. This is his story:

After he left our house on Friday, he met a friend at a pool hall. The friend took a pain pill & drank & ended up puking in the bathroom. Someone (staff) called the police. They arrested the friend. Then they asked Barry how much he had to drink. Barry said “one drink”. The cops said he was a liar because they had chalked his car tires & “You have been in here too long to just have one drink”. So they arrested Barry, too, for DUI. Driving under the influence? I thought he was tending to sick friend in the bar. LOL
This fish story stinks. Because he was in jail, He couldn’t call Eddie. The other customer didn’t get his work done on Sat. He called Eddie & was furious. So Angry Man was already mad at them for problems they had at his house earlier in the week.

Barry worked hard from 3pm till 8. I followed with my checklist & he did everything except “quarter round” the master closet & the living room. of course, Nacho didn’t leave the material & Barry only had the few tools that he would need to finish up. Then he tried to tell us that Eddie had not told him to “Quarter round” the living room. Because the paneling is brown & the floor is brown & the quarter round is white. We said that Eddie understood that we didn’t care because we are planning to get the paneling painted anyway.
So he measured the areas & ” assured” us that he would come back the next day or Tuesday & finish up. I told him I wouldn’t be home Tuesday. (Gotta take TM to the base)

Yesterday was Monday and he never showed or called…
