Been a long week, but as Paddy noted, the drop in temps is most welcome. Little bit of rain here yesterday, not much, but enough for the local news channels to all proclaim “STORM WATCH.”

Perhaps it’s just my cynical and misanthropic nature (I hope so); I feel like our country’s beginning to come apart along some of its (too numerous) metaphorical seams.
The gummint’s overreach is more shameless than ever (ObamaCare, the NPS goons, new daily revelations about the extent of IRS and NSA malfeasance, shutdown theater, etc.).
A venal, petty president with obvious tyrannical tendencies.
A corrupt judicial branch which very selectively enforces the law…when its not engaging in outright illegal and illegitimate activities.
A Congress which refuses to do its job to represent its constituents or jerk the leashes of the executive and judicial branches hard.
Not to mention the cowardly and partisan media; I’m more grateful than ever for the internet.
I guess I ought to be glad that at this point, I am far more exasperated than I am spooked.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled snarking and frolicking…

I love the way SoCal teevee stations do that. Years ago, I wrote a parody promo script mocking same; IIRC, it was along the lines of “DEATHSTORM 2003!!1!” If I can find it, I’ll post it later.
Down to the wire in CA for the Second Amendment: Brown has until the weekend to sign or veto that dozen or so gun bills sitting on his desk. Altho I think that if he takes no action, they become law as well.

Albany, GA -- Brave and heroic six-foot-tall, 300-pound probation officer shoots 12-pound Jack Russell terrier for disobeying verbal orders:
When Shelton got to the top of her front steps, she says she saw Patches approaching the officer and began telling him that the dog didn’t bite, but before she knew what was happening the officer had already pulled out his gun and shot the dog.

Shelton says she immediately began questioning why the officer would shoot such a little dog to which he responded he feared for his life. After being shot, Patches went to the side of the house where she passed away 30 minutes later and Shelton says she’s having a hard time dealing with the loss.
