Outside the night is dark and cold,
but we gather here around the candle.
The cold darkness reminds us of our emptiness.
We have longed desperately to find meaning;
but darkness is not empty --
The sky is jeweled in stars.
Each star is a memory of Bethlehem’s Star;
and with the coming of that star,
God’s love and light have come into the world.
The darkness is forever changed;
despair has been changed into shadows.
Guilt has been shaped into dancers on the ceiling,
for the light has come into our world,
and unto us a Savior is born.
Glory to God!
